The Sphinx pattern was made by the Lancaster Glass Company beginning in 1932. The pattern depicts pairs of seated sphinxes facing opposite directions from each other. These are the Greek sphinxes which are bare-breasted women on top of a lion's body with a pair of wings as opposed to the Egyptian sphinx. A floral decoration is between and above each pair of sphinxes. A cable design surrounds the base. The pattern consists of 3 sizes of bowls (12, 12 1/2 and 13 inch) and 2 sizes of vases (9 inch straight or fluted). |
